Post-workout nutrition is actually far more important than a lot of people realize, especially if you’re trying to tone up or build muscle! When you work out, you use up your body’s energy stores and break down muscle tissue, so you need to refuel with a combination of protein and carbohydrates to help your body recover.
A few simple healthy post workout options might be low-fat Greek yogurt with fresh fruit, a protein shake with a banana, or a whole wheat wrap filled with lean protein and veggies.
Remember that it’s important to eat these foods as soon as you can after you work out, ideally within about 45 minutes to an hour. This is when your body is best at absorbing these critical nutrients! Also, be sure to drink plenty of water to make up for what you lost while you were breaking a sweat! 🙂
