Hi All,
A few years ago, I wrote a piece for Womens Health Magazine called, “Busy Gal’s 7 Day Meal Plan”. Of all of the articles I’ve ever written, that one has gotten me more letters even til today. People email and say they lost it and NEED a new copy, etc. It was the only piece I’ve done that’s had a whole week of meals that morphed into each other and even had a grocery list. But everytime someone asks, to this day, I cringe slightly because there is a recipe for “Pepperoni Broccoli Pizza” that calls for “1/2 slice of turkey pepperoni” and it tells you to scatter it over the pizza. Now anyone who knows me, knows that has to be a mistake. (A perfectionist’s nightmare!) I would never say, “Pepperoni” pizza unless it really had pepperoni. It was actually supposed to be “12 slices turkey pepperoni”. Somehow between the editing, then laying it out, etc. the fraction got added. GULP!
So I’m sitting here this morning, faced with proofreading my next book, “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Fattening”…AGAIN…cover to cover to make sure the layout didn’t tweak anything. With each stage (we’re on number 4 now) I feel the need to read each and every word again to make sure something like the above didn’t happen anywhere. But it takes about 2 entire business days by the time I fact check all of the nutritionals, really visiualize how the recipes will be cooked, etc. NOT fun. In fact, it’s the only part of writing a book that I find to be not fun. I mean, who wants to read something they wrote 4 times?
So today, as I lock myself in my office wishing I had more time for a run (I’m going to sneak out for at least a half hour) and resisting the urge to eat (reading my books always causes an insane amount of cravings 1. because I love the dishes and 2. because I get bored), I wish you all a great day filled with the parts of your life that you love to partake in.
Happy Cooking (& Eating!)
Devin
ps: The book will hit shelves on March 9th and provides the solution to the one thing I hear more often than any other, “I don’t have time to cook”. This time the recipes are healthy, decadent, AND FAST!
